German artist Michael Kruscha is featured in the two-person show, Partituren/Time Stands Still: Photographs by Michael Matthews & Michael Kruscha on exhibit at the Irving Arts Center, March 5 – June 25, 2022. Primarily an abstract painter and graphic artist, Michael Kruscha is also an avid photographer and world traveler. Time Stands Still presents Kruscha’s images of bus stops, a series taken over a period of 12 years, often in remote places in which the notion of public transportation seems almost ironic. The quirky designs of these structures (ranging from highly ornate to minimally functional) and their seemingly random placement in the landscape, calls into question the basic notion of “shelter” and the public aesthetic. Kruscha was born in the town of Hoyerswerda in what was then East Germany in 1961 and from 1999-2001 he studied painting under Daniel Fischer at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design Bratislava. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and projects around the world. This video provides an overview of his solo exhibitions of paintings and collages at the City Museum (“elsewhere”) and the Art Space Braugasse (“here and there”) in Hoyerswerda in 2021.
