Gallery Spotlight - Mark Goad - Picnic

Mark Goad whose work is currently featured in the exhibition, Windows: Paper Works by Mark Goad at the Arts Center, March 4 – August 26, 2023. Mark Goad is an Irving native and holds a B.A. in Printmaking from University of Dallas where he studied under Juergen Strunck. After many years of living and working in and around Austin, Mark has returned to North Texas. Finding inspiration in the landscape of Texas as well as myriad other subjects, Goad creates unique works of art through a most unique process — essentially drawing & painting with fiber pulp. Hand drawn with recycled liquefied Texas King Cotton fiber pulp that is steeped in natural dyes and local water, Goad creates images on screens, before transferring his work onto drying blankets where they dry and solidify into complete sheets of paper. Mark’s method is unique because his application of liquified paper pulp becomes the handmade paper and the “painted” image together. The fiber literally becomes the medium and the canvas! Solidified in their final form, the pieces are delicate, yet able to hold a weight of detail. Depicting the natural beauty of his home state, and occasionally the characters who comprise it, Goad is a true Texas original, conjuring scenes and a slice of life in The Lone Star State.
