Ximena Peryea - Lunch & Learn Dec 6, 2022

The guest speaker for Dec. 6 is photographer Ximena Peryea whose work is currently on display at the Irving Arts Center in Aquí/Ahora (Here/Now), a group exhibition spotlighting six local Latinx artists and IAC Art Connection members. Artwork in a variety of media including painting, drawing, mixed media, assemblage, sculpture and photography is featured. Ximena Peryea was born in Cali, Colombia and raised in New York City. She received her bachelor’s degree in science from Cornell University in 1983. After moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and working in laboratory research, she changed direction and dedicated her time to photographic endeavors and family. She was the owner/partner of Main Event Photography in Southlake, TX from 1996-2009. “As a photographer,” Ximena writes in her artist statement, “I am drawn to spaces awash in color and sensuality; my photographs are attempts at distilling their elusive intrigue so as to live in their presence; I seek to create images that serve as an as an invitation to linger, to pause, to immerse, to anchor.” In the exhibit Aquí/Ahora (Here/Now), Ximena showcases seven such spaces – three captured in Berlin and Montreal, two in Dallas, and two she created at home. Lunch & Learn is FREE and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch or snack. The 2022-2023 Lunch & Learn program runs from October 2022 through May 2023. Dates are Oct. 4, Nov. 1, Dec. 6, Jan. 3, Feb. 7, March 7, April 4 and May 2.
